In August 2013 Ronstadt revealed that she has Parkinson’s disease, leaving her unable to sing due to loss of muscle control, which is common to Parkinson’s patients. She was diagnosed eight months prior to the announcement and had initially attributed the symptoms she had been experiencing to the aftereffects of shoulder surgery and a tick bite.

Linda Marie Ronstadt (born July 15, 1946) is an American popular music singer. She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, an ALMA Award and numerous United States and internationally certified gold, platinum and multiplatinum albums. She has also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe award.

Jane Harvey (January 6, 1925 – August 15, 2013) was an American jazz singer, known for recording many tracks with famous musicians Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman during the 1940s. Harvey began her musical career at Barney Josephson’s nightclub, occasionally performing there. In 1946, she joined Desi Arnaz’s Orchestra, until she left in 1958 to raise her son, Bob Thiele Jr. During the late 1950s, she joined Duke Ellington’s Orchestra. Around the time of her death, she performed locally, all over the Los Angeles area.

August Schellenberg (July 25, 1936 – August 15, 2013) was a Canadian-born Métis actor.

His first film was Rip-Off in 1971. In 1981, he did voices for the animated film Heavy Metal. During the late ’90s he had major roles in Black Robe (as Chomina), Free Willy and its sequels (as Randolph Johnson), Iron Will (Ned Dodd), and TV film Crazy Horse (Sitting Bull). He went on to star as Chief Powhatan in Terrence Malick’s 2005 film The New World, alongside Colin Farrell, Q’orianka Kilcher, and Christian Bale. He also had roles in Disney’s Eight Below and the doco within a film The Green Chain (2007). In 2011, he appeared in two episodes of the television series Stargate Universe as Yaozu.

Lisa Robin Kelly (March 1970 – August 14, 2013) was an American actress best known for her roles on That ’70s Show and Amityville Dollhouse. Prior to her role in That ’70s Show, she had small roles in several sitcoms.

• In August 2010, Kelly was arrested in North Carolina on a charge of driving under the influence. In November 2010, she pleaded guilty, was fined and sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation.
• On March 31, 2012, she was arrested on a felony charge of corporal injury upon a spouse, and was released on $50,000 bail. The charge was based on a complaint filed by her ex-boyfriend, John Michas. She later made public statements saying that she was the one who had been assaulted, and denied Michas’ claim that she assaulted him. On May 12, 2012, TMZ reported that the LA County DA declined to file charges.
• In November 2012, police in Mooresville, North Carolina arrested the 42-year-old Kelly and her 61-year-old husband Robert Joseph Gilliam after responding to a disturbance at their home. Both were charged with assault and released on bond.
• On June 23, 2013, Kelly was arrested for a suspected DUI when law enforcement responded to a call about a parked car blocking a lane of traffic on the I-5 freeway and she failed a field sobriety test.

Gia Allemand (December 20, 1983 – August 14, 2013) was an American actress, model, and reality television contestant. She was known for appearing in Maxim and competing on two ABC reality shows, The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love and Bachelor Pad. Allemand had been set to star in a new television series and had been selected to play a role in an upcoming film about the life of Gianni Russo.

On August 12, 2013, Allemand was admitted to University Hospital in New Orleans for an attempt at suicide by hanging. She was declared brain dead and removed from life support two days later at age 29. At the time of her death, she was living in New Orleans with her boyfriend, NBA basketball player Ryan Anderson.

Allen Glover Lanier (June 25, 1946 – August 14, 2013) was an original member of Blue Öyster Cult. Lanier played keyboards and rhythm guitar. He resided in Manhattan.

Lanier wrote several songs for Blue Öyster Cult albums, including “True Confessions”, “Tenderloin”, “Searchin’ for Celine”, “In Thee” and “Lonely Teardrops”. In addition to his work with Blue Öyster Cult, he also contributed to music by Patti Smith, Jim Carroll, The Dictators and The Clash, among others. He dated Patti Smith for several years during the 1970s.

Eydie Gorme (also spelled as Eydie Gormé; August 16, 1928 – August 10, 2013) was an American singer, specializing, with her husband, Steve Lawrence, in traditional pop music, in the form of ballads and breezy swing. She earned numerous awards, including the Grammy and the Emmy.

She won a Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Performance in 1967, for her version of “If He Walked Into My Life”, from Mame.

As a duo with her husband, the act was billed as Steve and Eydie. In 1960, Steve and Eydie were awarded the Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Vocal Group for the album, “We Got Us”. 

She retired in 2009.  Gormé became a blogger, posting occasional messages on her official website. In November 2009, after his wife retired, Lawrence embarked on a solo musical tour.

Eydie Gorme died on August 10, 2013, six days before her 85th birthday, following a brief illness, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is believed that she died of cancer. Lawrence was at her bedside, along with their son, when she died on Saturday afternoon, her publicist Howard Bragman said. Eydie Gorme was 84 years old at the time of her death.

Jody Payne (January 11, 1936 – August 10, 2013) was an American country musician and singer. He is probably best known as a longtime guitarist in Willie Nelson’s band, The Family.

He first met Willie Nelson in about 1962 in Detroit. Nelson was playing bass with Ray Price. Payne started working with Nelson in November 1973. Before that, he played for Merle Haggard.

After playing with Willie Nelson for 35 years he retired from Nelson’s band in 2008.

Karen Black (July 1, 1939 – August 8, 2013) was an American actress, screenwriter, singer and songwriter. She is known for her appearances in such films as Easy Rider (1969), Five Easy Pieces (1970), The Great Gatsby, Rhinoceros and Airport 1975 (all 1974), The Day of the Locust, Nashville, (both 1975), and Alfred Hitchcock’s final film, Family Plot (1976).
