(June 20, 2010) Edith Shain, the nurse in Alfred Eisenstead's famous Victory over Japan Day In Times Square photo, died in Los Angeles. She was 91.

There's several women and men (Sailor) to have claimed to have been the in the famous photo. Who knows who they are, in a few years that generation will become a bygone era and only a memory.

I know... they are all in their 90's (some in the 80's, some in 100+) It doesn't really matter if she's not the person in the picture. It's nice to have someone to represent that memory. I bet they all truly believe it's them in the picture. A lot of kissing went on that day, I guess. Haha..

It was a small, interesting story. She died in LA. So it was on LA news (TV) for a 1-2 days.

May she and all wartime vets rest in peace. Just wanted to point out that the post should have noted that Ms. Shain was believed to be the girl in the picture. There were several claiming to be the nurse and the sailor but there really is no way to know for sure.
