Re: 5 Most Shocking Deaths that I Remember

How about R Budd Dwyer? He was a former Pennsylvania Senator and Treasurer that held a press conference on 1/22/87 for the sole purpose of blowing his brains out on live tv. Then stations all over the country kept playing it over and over with the "contains shocking and graphic footage not suggested for children." Like my parents watched the news with me. I was in th grade and still have nightmares of seeing it to this day.

Just watched that

Just watched that video.......that is dramatic

Re: 5 Most Shocking Deaths that I Remember

sorry doesnt count... michael jackson is definatly one of them

Re: 5 Most Shocking Deaths that I Remember

I just found out about him. I don't know if I should thank you or... That's a horrifying video. I don't know why I didn't hear that news when it happened. Maybe that was the time I didn't watch news? Maybe news stations in my area down-played that news that I no longer remember that event. (or combination of both) Really shocking... I'm still sick to my stomach.

Re: 5 Most Shocking Deaths that I Remember

There are a lot of people that I have seen die that made me sad, but if these are the ones that will be long remembered, and since I have to exclude those that I was too young to have been effected by, then my list would be: 1. 9/11 - I was in a hotel room getting dressed for work. I turned on CNN, as was my morning routine and the first plane had hit. There was still a lot of speculation as to what was going on. The first opinion that I remember hearing was that it was an aviation accident. How wrong that opinion proved to be. 2. Lady Diana - I was at work when this happened. If you notice by the rest of my list, I've not focused on any other single death. This one, however, was particularly shocking as it seemed to implicate the Royal Family. In my mind, they are guilty of her murder, and got away only because of their position as the Monarchy of England. Of course, then we have the Kennedys... 3. Those who died during Hurricane Katrina - I watched in horror as thousands of people perished. Like 9/11, this could have been prevented. The US Army Corps of Engineers KNEW that the levees were flawed, and that their breach was imminent. There should have not been a soul left between the TX / LA state line and Mobile Alabama. Mandatory evacuations should have been enforced. They had enough time. 4. The 250,000+ who died during the Tsunami of 24December2004. The sheer magnitude of this was simply overwhelming. This event was truly sad in that, unlike hurricanes, there was no warning of the massive quake. To me, this is the saddest event of our time. 5. The Space Shuttle Challenger Crew- My teacher was in the running to be on board. My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of those involved (The family of Christa McAuliffe in particular) but we were very glad that our teacher did not win. Although this doesn't rank up with the 9/11, Katrina, or the Tsunami, it was a very personal loss.
