Merle Haggard is hoping to be released in a few days from the hospital where he was admitted earlier this week to be treated for pneumonia, which forced the celebrated country singer and songwriter to postpone seven shows in several states, his spokeswoman said Thursday.

Merle Ronald Haggard (born April 6, 1937, 74 years old) is an American country music singer, guitarist, fiddler, instrumentalist, and songwriter. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band The Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the unique twang of Fender Telecaster guitars, vocal harmonies, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville Sound recordings of the same era.

My deepest prayers go out to "The Hag", as I grew up with his and Buck Owens music while living in Bakersfield. I missed seeing him around after he moved to Lake Shasta. Hang tough Mr.Haggard!
