From 2000 until 2011, Gilbert Gottfried was the voice of the duck in the AFLAC commercials
In March 2011, Gottfried made jokes on his @realgilbert Twitter account in reference to the earthquake disaster in Japan. Despite deleting the tweets and apologizing, Gottfried was fired by Aflac as the voice of the Aflac Duck on March 14, 2011 in response to the tweets.
He wrote:
- “What do you get when you cross a tsunami and a nuclear explosion? Stir fry!”
- “Why do the Japanese eat so much ramen? Because it’s so easy to make: Just add water.”
- “Did you hear about the Japanese stock market? It crashed on purpose!”
